Night of the Nuggets: Correction
The Amazing Miss Pearl—Helping to Make the World Better for Chickens and People
This week, Pearl had a rather stern conversation with me. In last week’s newsletter, I used a chapter banner that showed “Chapter 5” rather than “Chapter 30.” At her insistence, I corrected that error this morning.
She had other concerns and felt that I was not focusing as I should, and in her play area, she did some scratching and pecking for a while to give me a visual lesson as you can see in the photograph above.
She told me, “Do you see how I did that? While you can see my footprints, it’s still all flat, neat and tidy. ”
“Yes, I see. It’s really quite beautiful,” I replied.
“Thank you, but I wasn’t trying to make it look beautiful. I just wanted it to look thorough—the way it should look,” she said.
“The way you let the bricks show and make a line was done particularly well. It’s very easy to see what’s yours and what’s not yours.”
“Actually that’s where the best earthworms like to gather. They squirm through the moist ground and stop at the bricks where they have a tough time putting things into reverse.”
“That’s the same for chickens too, isn’t it?” I asked. “I’ve never seen a chicken walking backwards.”
Pearl nodded. She seemed happy that I at least appeared to be observant of her chicken habits and chicken ways.
“I’m thinking that I may need to start branching out and doing my own thing with this writing and illustrating,” Pearl said.
“Do you want your own newsletter?” I asked.
“Not really,” said Pearl. “I’m sort of covered under the umbrella of The GraciePress Newsletter.”
“That’s true. The PearlPress Newsletter doesn’t quite sound right. It’s the alliteration of the letter ‘P’ that makes it seem strange.”
“Seeming strange is the very LAST thing that I want to do!” said Pearl.
“What do you say we close out for this week by showing everyone the illustrations for the next three chapters?”
“That sounds perfect! They are the ones where I figure out some huge important clues when I do some detective work, right?”
“They are some of my favorite drawings of you doing your detective work in preparation for being the next Bibliothécaire Principale of The Living Library.”
“And they feature my most favorite hat of all about what I learned, but just be sure to get the chapter numbers correct for the next newsletter edition,” she said with a smile and a wink.

By the way: One of the titles uses “Amazing Wings.” Can you spot what makes Pearl’s wings so amazing?
Until Next Time…
Remember Pearl’s scratching around tip: Borders are good for chickens because that’s where the best things like juicy earthworms can be found! When you find that you can’t go any further and can’t turn around or reverse your path, just feast on what’s there and then go in whatever way you can!
