For some time now, I’ve been considering creating a book of moderately scary stories that chickens might tell to each other. It is important to remember that what is scary to chickens is not necessarily scary to people. You likely remember that my chickens live in the middle of my very small garden in the middle of my very small backyard behind my very small house, but they all have a very BIG imagination.
For example, what might happen if one year something happened with the seeds for our garden that caused things to grow very differently than we expected? Maybe it would happen because the seeds were exposed to moonlight falling on the window sill where they had been scooped out, washed, and set out to dry so they would be ready for the next season.
What creepy pumpkins would result? Perhaps one that was like an octopus with six tentacles?
The possibilities are endless! But how will my brave little chickens survive this horror right in their own backyard?!? Perhaps they will try to eat it before being eaten by it!
Several years ago, my chickens designed their own scary Halloween costumes—from their perspective as chickens! The kids in our neighborhood made a lot of fun of them because their costumes were home-made and not store-bought like theirs.
But my chickens learned a great deal from that experience. They learned that even though candy corn sounds like it should be tasty, it really isn’t! And even though gummy worms look and wiggle like worms, they are nothing at all like the worms that chickens find in their own backyard!
Anyway, if you are going out tonight, be safe! Check over all of your candy treats before eating anything. There may something in your treat bag that is not be good for you! This year, we are staying in, popping some salt-free unflavored pop corn and telling scary Halloween stories!
Thank you for reading!

Such a creative a fun idea! And the octopus pumpkin artwork is great!
Happy Halloween to all!
