Thanks, David. I’m reminded of the Eastern Shore of Virginia which is nearby. There are miles and miles of chicken farms owned by Perdue and Tyson and quite a few others. Lots of space and lots of inexpensive seasonal labor. (It was only a few years ago that the last houses on the Eastern Shore finally got indoor plumbing!!!)
By the way, your story about the female knight popped in to my phone when I was outside with the chickens this afternoon. They thoroughly enjoyed your story, and they now aspire to the high standards of your newest heroine. It was totally delightful, and they really did feel like they were part of the story, especially when I read to them the part about “I was placed into a coarse, rough burlap sack, and carted away into a cave.” It was something they could relate to even as chickens. I am going to see if I can figure out the re-stack steps to share it with those who follow me here so maybe you can get a few additional subscribers!
